Somebody from cali might chime in and say $450 is totally reasonable too. its what you do with the bike, and how much you enjoy it that actually matters. if you turn that bike into a real work of art, nobodys gonna scoff at the original price. paying $450 for a moped isnt insanity if you want it that bad. I tend to be completely broke a lot, so $50-100 is pretty much a budget, but after getting SO MANY peds for such little cash, ive come to expect it.ĭo what you want. i guess it just depends on how much you value your money, and how disposable your income is. if you dont wanna go through the hassle of searching out a different moped, and you have the cash ready to go, why not buy it? my friend bought his first newport for $600 which is absolutely insane for iowa prices, but he never ever regretted it. and price is all about what YOU'RE willing to pay. you never know, maybe the right person will happen to see your ad and contact you about a maxi they just want to get rid of for free. im sure 40 people are already doing that in california, so that doesnt help you much, but here its basically just me, so it works out pretty well. i put ads up on craigslist looking for them in the wanted AND the motorcycle sections.

i live in iowa, nobody cares about mopeds so the prices stay low. My luck with prices comes from two things: a. for $450 i'd expect a fairly clean, well loved runner. honestly the market there is different, but even there i'd say that bikes only worth about $300 in your market. parts are abundant, and when running properly, they are really durable and reliable. puchs are excellent bikes, and a great start for the beginner. If youve never had a moped before, get this one. some people think these things are made of gold, but the truth is puch maxis were unbelievably common in the 70s, and still are today, so they really arent that valuable or sought after. i rarely spend more than $50 on a non-titled bike, especially something as common and plain as a maxi or a newport. here in iowa, titles are required for registration, so if a bike doesnt have one thats immediately another knock off the price.

if your state requires registration or a title, and he doesnt have the paperwork, thats another drawback and even more money youre going to spend getting that sorted out.

Take into consideration your local laws too. e50s are such simple engines that running isnt really even a benefit in this type of situation.all that means is everything is there thats needed to make the engine fire, which consists of like 17 pieces total. it runs, which is a start, but just because it runs now doesnt mean it would run reliably forever. all the stuff to do a full, complete rebuild alone would run over $100 if you did it right.īasically, i'd value THAT PARTICULAR newport around $100-150 tops.

from sitting outside, possibly even with the air filter missing like it currently is, it probably would benefit from a rebuild. maybe not though, but they do tend to rust pretty easily. not good.Ĭheck the tank, from the looks of it it wasnt taken super well care of, so its probably rusty inside. which means this thing spent lots of time sitting outside in the elements. also the red decals that go next to the tank badge and on the rear section are suuuper faded, worse than ive ever seen. the seat is not original, the housing around the speedometer is missing, both side covers and the screws are missing, originally it would have had a heat shield on the exhaust which is missing, and the air filter is gone. That bike right there has a few issues, for originalities sake. there isnt really a value for them, but i'd ballpark your average runner around $50-200 tops. I've gotten maxis for free, ive gotten TONS of them for $50-100, and a few i have purchased for upwards of $200. otherwise every single piece is identical to a maxi. the only difference on those is the color and decals. Thats actually a puch newport L, but its the same basic bike.
